"Helping Others Advance" This phrase sums up the life calling of this Academic Enthusiast, Military Brat, and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
Allow me to introduce you to Jasmine Jackson - an Old Dominion University alum, who has a hard time answering the, "Where Are You From?" Question. She was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky and has also lived in Colorado, Hawaii, New York, and Belgium. But for now, Ms. Jackson is calling Richmond, Virginia her home. More recently, Ms. Jackson is serving as an Enrollment Counselor at Averett University and in December of this year, she will be receiving her Masters Degree in Academic Advising from Kansas State University. She is also looking to obtain certification in Human Resource Management. As anyone can plainly see, Ms. Jackson has a lot going on in her universe.
So why a career in higher learning?
Her passion for aiding people in academic and career advancement is driven by her desire to specifically see the African-American population succeed.

“I have always wanted to help Black women and men advance in their careers. From resume & cover letter writing, interviewing skills, and study techniques, I want to prepare people for college by educating them on all facets of higher learning."
Ms. Jackson has dreams of continuing her work as a Director of Career Services at a post-secondary institution. "I want to prepare college students for life in and after college."
Ms. Jackson was able to directly see the fruits of her labor during Averett University's Career Fair earlier this year.

"The Career Fair was an exciting time for me. It was a free event to the community and had over 75 employers. It was my first time ever being a part of such a huge event where I could leave my mark - recruiting employers to come out; helping to promote the event through social media & word of mouth; and dropping off flyers to churches and restaurants. The day of the event was demanding and one of the longest days, but it was amazing seeing individuals being hired on spot or even coming in with hopes of talking to the companies for which they had already submitted online applications. When it was over, it made me so much more appreciative of my job and how difficult it is to find employment."

So how does she keep a work-life balance?
Ms. Jackson stays refreshed through praying and reading her devotionals, talking with her family, and spending time with friends, who are also pushing to jump-start their careers.
It is nice to know that my friends are going through the same problems as I am. It is nice to know that we can motivate each other to push and to work harder. Don’t ever give up on something that you think about every day.
