"Everybody repeat after me! 'THANK GOD I'M FABULOUS!'"
- Kimora Lee Simmons
So as I confessed earlier this year, I'm trying to wean myself off of reality/junk television. I've let go of the "Real Housewives" this and "Love & Hip Hop" that. Fortunately, I've come across a few self-starters who have created platforms, not only to entertain, but also to inspire and educate. Let me preface this by saying that all of these ladies attended my high school, the Appomattox Regional Governors School for the Arts & Technology. It's amazing to see all of them flowing in their gifts. Here's what I've been watching in my spare time:
Music - Deleyse Rowe is probably one of the greatest artists to ever grace this planet. She was a music major at the Appomattox Regional Governors School for Arts and Technology. This songstress, musician, and songwriter has since traveled all over the world sharing her gift of music. I often watch her Youtube Channel to listen to her covers and to her creations as well. Be sure to visit Deleyse Rowe on Youtube to witness her greatness for yourself.
Fashion - I also attended high school with this fashionista. Allow me to introduce Shayla Courtney. She is a personal stylist, entrepeuner, and avid style blogger. She recently created a Youtube channel that gives subscribers advice on everything from how to organize their closet to how to look slimmer on a Friday night out. She also is known for her "Pass or Play" instagram challenge - a game created to survey the sentiments of various celebrities' looks (Instagram: IAmShaylaCourtney). For fashion tips and inspiration be sure to visit Ms. Courtney's Youtube channel: Breathe In Style and her blog ShaylaCourtney.com.
Entertainment - You all remember Ms. Johnson! I covered this film maker and video production expert a few weeks back for a Madam Monday feature. Well, her production company, The Other Crystal, is up and running. She has started a Youtube channel full of cute and corky segments. She interprets hood facebook statuses; takes you on her journey to conquer the world of make-up; and completes game challenges with her boyfriend [they are absolutely adorable]. Be sure to visit and subscribe to her Vlog, The Other Crystal, and visit her page theothercrystal.tumblr.com/ !
Make-Up - If you're anything like me or Crystal [watch the video above] the area of cosmetology is NOT your forte.
Kayla Nixon or "Kay Sherrie" is a college student and a freelance makeup artist. Each week this expert provides her followers with beauty tips and creative design ideas via her Instagram : @Kay_Sherrie. She recently launched a fabulous website, KaySherrie.com, where she shares beauty tips; words of encouragement; and her personal chronicles. Her YouTube channel, Kayla Nixon, is one of my favorites. The production is so well done; there is limited talking; and she covers everything from delivering a fresh face to wearing makeup with glasses. To keep up with this little lady, be sure to follow her on Instagram and subscribe to her page.
